For the T3 Photo Festival Tokyo 2026, I have curated a two-person exhibition associating the work of two photographers from the small town of Sakaiminato in Tottori prefecture: the twentieth-century master Shoji Ueda with that of Akemi Mure, for whom he became a mentor towards the end of his life.

For Yoshiyuki Okuyama’s book photographs—the final chapter in a trilogy including flowers (2021) and windows (2023), exploring the exchange of the gaze—I contributed the essay “Inner Light”, discussing Okuyama’s deeply personal and experimental take on the vernacular object that is the family photo album.

I contributed writing to and was a member of the advisory board for this new photographic anthology edited by Nathalie Herschdorfer, This is Photography: The First 200 Years.

Sung Jin Park’s new book Kid Echo revisits the world of adolescence he first explored in the monograph Kid Nostalgia. I interviewed Park for the book, discussing his background, his photographic influences, and how he now looks at his portraits of adolescent life on the streets of Seoul with the benefit of 20 years of hindsight. The book is published by New York-based Session Press.

On the occasion of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s solo exhibition Reprendre la mélodie (Taking up the Melody) at the Musée Soulages in Rodez, I gave a lecture on the prominence of black and of materiality in the development of Japanese photography in the twentieth century, in order to explore Hiroshi Sugimoto’s unique artistic trajectory as a “Japanese photographer”.

I edited this collection of essays, More Than One World, that looks back at Japanese photography’s place in the global historiography of the medium since the landmark exhibition New Japanese Photography held at MoMA in 1974. The book includes contributions by Japanese, Asian, European, and American curators, researchers, and artists.
